The Art Festival in the Pines
For artists and patrons alike, the Art Festival in the Pines is a delightful atmosphere in which to buy and sell art and fine crafts. It's held every March, and showcases many exquisite foods, live music, a hands-on art area and demonstrations by local artists.
Pines Recreation Center
The Pines Recreation Center is used for a variety of events and activities in the Pembroke Pines area. Facilities include football and soccer fields in addition to basketball courts and softball diamonds.
The Pembroke Lakes Golf and Tennis Center is a recreational hub offering golf and tennis lessons, a swimming pool, a restaurant and more. Golf courses in the area include Grand Palms Hotel & Golf Resort Grand Course, Sabal Course, and Royal Course, The Raintree Golf Resort, and The Pembroke Lakes Golf Club.
For outdoor concerts and other events, the River of Grass Arts Park Theater features space for perfomers to entertain visitors. In addition to softball fields, the city's Fletcher Park offers an indoor facility for art and music classes as well as a monument to veterans and Donnith Fletcher, namesake to the park and the first local resident to die in the Vietnam War.
The Shops at Pembroke Gardens
This upscale shopping mall wasn't designed just to sell staples to local residents but also as a tourism draw that represents much of the Fort Lauderdale area. Here you can find 400,000 square feet of top level shops and restaurants selling everything from bedding to the latest in surfing gear. Some of the retailers you'll find at Pembroke Gardens include: Banana Republic, Coldwater Creek Spa, Barnes and Noble, Dockers San Francisco, Maui Nix Surf Shop, Jones NY, Golf Galaxy, Swarovski, and Lucky Brand Jeans.
Pembroke Lakes
While Pembroke Gardens focuses on the upscale retail demographic, the Pembroke Lakes mall has something for everyone. Whether you need to visit Sears for a replacement front license plate bracket, get a hair cut at the Hair Cuttery, stop by for a quick meal at the food court or have a longer sit down meal with the girls before going on a major clothes shopping spree, this is the mall for you. It contains such mall staples as Victoria's Secret, Macy's, Payless Shoes, Kay Jewelers, Hot Topic, J.C. Penney, the Disney Store, the Gap, Dillard's, GNC, American Eagle, and Build-a-Bear.
Village Square and Stand-Alone Shops
The Village Square on Hiatus Road may be the perfect place to stop in quickly on the way home from work if you need a few groceries. While it may lack the largeness and all-day appeal of Pembroke Lakes or Pembroke Gardens, it does have several useful stores. There are also a number of stand-alone shops and big box stores scattered throughout the city. The Wal-Mart in Cooper City is a great place for everything from toys to household items while you'll probably want to visit the local hardware shop for reno projects..
Fort Lauderdale
If you're up for a real retail expedition, the major tourist destination of Fort Lauderdale is only a half-hour drive away. There you'll find a shopping mecca consisting of enormous malls like the Galleria and stylish outdoor boutique districts like Las Olas Boulevard. Bargain hunters will also delight in the Sawgrass Mall, the world's largest discount mall, and the massive Swap Shop flea market, which is a great place to pick up everything from custom crafts to used hand garden tools. Malls can be reached by car, public transit and water taxi, so there's really no reason not to go. Of course, there is always going to be that product or two that you cannot buy in a local store, no matter how big the city. Let us use wastewater screens for example. You will not be able to walk into the local Old Navy or Home Hardware to pick them up, but you could easily find them online. If you would like to go apple picking in the fall with your family, we know the perfect spot! Visit Luna Farms!
